Elementary School

My Spoon Making One thing I put effort into when making my own spoon was incorporating patterns based on bear claw marks and animal footprints I saw during yesterday’s geohike.
Junior High School

Group Living I think I became much closer to my schoolmates. I would like to use what I learned from Taisetsu in my school life going forward.

Hiking – Komatsubara Wildwood Course I wanted to walk around more and see more things. The scenery was beautiful, the air was clean, and I thought this place was amazing.

Overnight Stay I want to come back. It was fun staying with everyone, and it was great to be able to do lots of things I’d never tried before.

Dominoes

Through working together with my friends to clean the room and put away the dominoes, I learned about the importance of tidiness. I want to use what I learned here to help myself grow and pass it on to younger students.

Group Living I think greetings are important because I was able to greet other people when I passed them in the hallway and felt great.

Walk Rally The Walk Rally in the rain was so much fun. We helped each other out and the bonds with our friends deepened.

Group Living I was anxious at first about living in a large group, but we strengthened our bond through activities such as outdoor cooking and campfires in addition to training.

Youthpia Time

Both the morning radio calisthenics and Youthpia Time were good opportunities to interact with other groups, and those memories still stay in my mind.

Overnight Stay I was deeply moved by the breathtakingly beautiful nature that stretched as far as the eye could see. Looking at the green and yellow flowers visible from my room in the Center every morning made a wonderful start to the day.

Group Living I exchanged greetings with people of all ages as we passed each other, and somehow I felt so close to everyone, almost like family. It was only a short two-night stay, but I had so many encounters and joys thanks to the Center.

Elementary School

Wood-Burning Craft The wood-burning craft was fun. Each board had its own character, and it was interesting to burn it in my favorite color and see the patterns.
Junior High School

Group Living Living together with another group helped me realize the importance of being considerate of others.

Overnight Stay At home I sleep in a bed, so I had not had much experience folding futon bedding, but through this overnight training trip I learned how to fold a futon.

Walk Rally It was fun to notice that it became cooler at the edge of the forest.

Hiking I enjoyed walking on lava and seeing wind caves. During the Walk Rally, I was happy that our activity group worked together and reached the goal. Through the overnight experience, I learned the importance of nature and the importance of spending time without troubling others.

Communication Training During communication training, I was able to talk with people I normally would not talk to, and I enjoyed becoming closer regardless of gender.

Group Living It was fun to cooperate with classmates, compete with them, and deepen our friendships. Overall, I think it was very good that everyone was able to follow the rules.

Wood-Burning Craft For the wood-burning craft, burning the board, drawing on it, and pressing in the metal fittings were all fun. I enjoyed seeing my efforts take shape.

Hiking – Magma Crossing Course I thought magma would be hot and that I might get burned. When I actually walked over the magma, I was surprised that it had cooled down.

Hiking – Magma Crossing Course It was very hot when we started, but it was very cool inside the forest. I thought it was cool because the tall trees provided shade.

Hiking – Komatsubara Wildwood Course I learned about birds, trees, and other plants, and I thought this would be useful for future mountain climbing.

Hiking – Komatsubara Wildwood Course There were difficult paths and mysterious plants, so next time I want to bring an illustrated guidebook and walk while looking things up.

Hiking It was fun to learn so much about Daisetsuzan National Park, including the forest from 150 years ago and 3,300 years ago.

Hiking I was not good with insects, but through hiking I was able to learn about nature and living things, so it was fun.

Group Living Over the two days, I learned the importance of time. I want to keep reviewing each of my actions and use what I learned in my daily life.

Group Living When my stomach hurt, someone kindly said, “Don’t push yourself,” and I was able to see a side of my friends I had not known before.

Hiking – Magma Crossing Course The magma was fun and impressive. There were some dangerous places on the hiking course, but that made it fun.

Hiking – Magma Crossing Course It was my first time seeing rocks made from magma outside of an exhibit. Many of them were black, and their shapes looked like rectangular prisms. They ranged in size from large to small. Since we study volcanoes in sixth grade at elementary school, I want to use this experience in my future studies.

Hiking – Magma Crossing Course There was a hole along the course, and when I was told, “Try putting your hand in the hole,” I did and felt cold air coming out. It was like the earth was breathing. It was a very good discovery.

Hiking – Komatsubara Wildwood Course Walking through the wildwood was my best memory. At first I thought the holes made by magma would be hot, but when I put my hand inside, they were cold, which surprised me.

Group Living

On the hiking course, the sounds of the river, birds, and wind were very beautiful. Crossing the river was fun. At the National Taisetsu Youth Friendship Center, I learned to cooperate as a team and to think, judge, and act on my own. I want to use what I learned over these two days both at school and at home.

Hiking – Magma Crossing Course I like exercise, so I enjoyed going on the Magma Course. It was also memorable that they taught us about wind caves. I had valuable experiences over the two days. When I got home, I told my mother, “I want to go again.”

Group Living

Walking through the wildwood was fun. It was difficult, but I could feel nature. Using what I learned over these two days, I became able to do many things on my own. I want to help my mother a lot and make good use of what I learned.

Hiking – Komatsubara Wildwood Course The thing that stayed with me the most during the wildwood walk was seeing bamboo grass leaves that bloom only once every 60 years.

Ladder Getter It became very exciting when the balls got caught, and I thought it was a good game that could be enjoyed for more than just winning or losing, since we naturally cheered even for the opposing team.

Walk Rally I was happy to find so much nature. What impressed me most was the size of the trees. I was surprised to see trees so large that I could not imagine how many years old they were.

Dominoes Please tell us specifically what was fun: We failed many times, but after trial and error, we finally managed to line them all up. I felt a sense of accomplishment and was able to enjoy the activity.

Group Living I learned that punctuality is important when living in a group, because if we do not act on time, it causes trouble for others.

Handmade Strap Words from a student who could not do it at all at first: I didn’t understand it at all, but they taught me carefully and I learned how to do it. Once I understood, it became fun. When I get home, I want to show it to my mother first.
Junior High School

Group Living I was able to cooperate with my friends. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had not been able to go to hot springs very often, so I was glad to be able to bathe in one. Also, in preparation for next year’s school trip, I was able to practice being mindful of manners in public facilities.

Group Living When did you feel you were able to achieve your goals and follow the rules? We disinfected things, waited for friends who were late during activities, checked the next schedule together while living as a group, and spoke to people who seemed to be having trouble during activities.

Group Living I was able to learn unexpected things and things I had not known about my friends. I also found that I had things in common with people I had not known well and had never talked to before.

Group Living The overnight training trip became a very good memory. I learned that cooperating with friends is very important. Also, by working together with my friends, we were able to clean thoroughly so that the next people could use the room comfortably. I was happy when the staff checked it and said it was OK. I want to remember what I learned here and use it on our school trip.

Hiking It was very fun and very useful. In particular, when I walked on the place where magma had flowed and hardened, I thought, “So this is what hardened magma feels like.”

Hiking I thought it was amazing to walk through places on the hiking course where magma had passed. I especially liked crossing the river on the course. I thought it was amazing that nature had regenerated even after magma had passed through. I thought the power of nature was amazing.
